.3.  THRONE ROOM

The vault is Mudéjar. In the Gothic-Mudéjar plasterwork frieze there is a commemorative inscription where we can read the name of the craftsman who made it - Xadel Alcalde - as well as the fact that Enrique IV ordered the room to be built and decorated in 1456. The stained-glass window shows an image of this king to commemorate the Battle of Ximena.

The throne, under a velvet canopy, bears the arms of the Catholic Monarchs and the inscription "Tanto Monta" (roughly translated, "It makes no odds"). The walls are covered with brocade and velvet, as they were in the 16th century, and hanging from them are portraits of the Catholic Monarchs which belong to a collection of the Monarchs of Spain. The one showing Isabel is signed by Madrazo and the one showing Fernando is signed by Montañés.
